How to choose your diffuser?

Let’s talk diffusers! Choose between ultrasonic diffusion or by cold fogging nebulization?

You can find many types of diffusers on the market. Described below are the 2 main types of diffusers that are most frequently found in specialized boutiques or on line. How to make an informed choice that corresponds to your needs?

The best known is the ultrasonic diffuser

How does it work?

This type of mist diffuser is designed with an element that emits high frequency vibrations. These vibrations produce a light mist from the water located in the water reservoir. Added to the water, the essential oils are contained in the mist and are thereby dispersed into the air.

Advantages and Benefits

The vast majority of diffusers on the market are ultrasonic. Most often they are made of plastic and are equipped with changing LED lights, or sometimes they are made of ceramic, a more aesthetic material that blends perfectly to your décor. Very resistant, the ultrasonic diffusers are well known for being quiet. They are perfect for creating an olfactive ambiance in addition to producing lovely visual effect.

How to use

They are excellent diffusers for creating an aromatic ambiance. Because of the dilution of essential oils in the water, the therapeutic effects are not as pronounced as diffusers by nebulization which does not use water. Their use is thereby not as well adapted to the aromatherapy practice.

The choice of aromatherapist, a diffuser using cold and dry nebulization

How does it work?

The process that consists of scattering fine droplets of essential oils into the air is called nebulization. The cold nebulization process does not use water.

With its sophisticated mechanism, using a pump, this type of diffuser will nebulize into the air molecules of essential oils. The air flow causes the extracted essential oils to be thrown in fine droplets against the side of the glassware. Some of the droplets fall back and are recycled, the finest escaping from the top of the glassware and spreading into the air.

Some diffusers feature a variable flow diffusion rate and a timer that allows for independent operation: the function of alternating between on/off mode according to a pre-established cycle ensures that the diffuser automatically stops.

Advantages and benefits

Without a doubt, these diffusers represent the best solution in order to profit from the therapeutic well-being of diffused essential oils. The process of cold fogging nebulization does not alter the essential oils and thus preserves all their proprieties and fragrance. The diffuser by nebulization allows for taking full advantage of the quality and active principles of essentials oils.

Caution: These diffusers do not function like ultrasonic diffusers. Diffusion by nebulization does not necessitate water and should last about 10 minutes, not hours.

How to use

These diffusers are well known for their efficiency and are adapted for all rooms up to 1 000 ft2 (square feet) in size. They come in all forms and sizes and many are made with natural materials such as glass, wood or bamboo.

This type of diffuser does not consume more essential oils than an ultrasonic diffuser. Diffusing at intervals will save you bottles of essential oils in the long term. The short laps of time including the quality of the diffusion provide better results in aromatherapy.

Choose the essential oil diffusers which best suit your needs.
